• We have begun redevelopment work in earnest on Bronte, which has a nine week program. We start with demolition of the intrusive toilet block and then move to construction of new toilets and the kitchen, along with all interior finishes. Roof painting and plumbing has moved to the northern wing now that we have space to erect the scaffolding.
• Electrical and mechanical services are also being installed in Bronte and the Barracks in parallel with this work.
• Landscape works are drawing to a close. Scheduling of landscape works in the Bronte courtyard is dependent upon how the construction work progresses, but should occur during the last couple of weeks of this month. The Avenue pedestrian apron has been laid. Fencing issues should be resolved soon, and then work started.
• Interior finishes are being applied in The Barracks south wing, along with various little tasks around the veranda and external envelope of the building.
Basically, the major works within Bronte are underway and we are also progressing the many little ‘final’
tasks to do across the precinct.
Thanks
Brett

Any idea of what Bronte is to be used for once all the work has been completed? Is there an anchor tenant for the site or is all the work just on spec?
I think the barracks are amazing and look great.
Hi John, Bronte has no anchor tenant yet, however I am receiving very mixed messages about the site and it’s future use. Last week at a meeting I was told that the site will be “opened then sealed” due to the lack of income. a short time ago I was told that the DVC will be locating the RAFT (Real Action…Forward Thinking) group into Bronte. I think that it is starting to look like the DVC have a “Community House ” agenda for Bronte. I am not sure that restoration funds should be used in this manner and I personally think that the point of the history of Willow Court has been missed by this Council. I would like to know the DVC’s full agenda on what it wants to do with the site!

DV RAFT
Matt Hill stated that following the previous DV RAFT forum, he was approached by the Project Manager of the Willow Court Conservation
Committee (Special Committee of the Derwent Valley Council) for support of a Willow Court funding application (Tasmanian Community Fund).
This Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF) application is to assist with establishing an educational room at the Bronte building.
Matt Hill assisted the Project Manager with the sourcing of information and writing of this funding application.
Malcolm Elliott provided a letter of support (on behalf of DV RAFT and DV Learning Precinct) for this funding application.
