Info: Recorded in July 2015, June Purkiss (deceased) was first introduced to the Hospital when her father worked at the site as a bricklayer, building the oval wards in 1935. Little did she know both she and her father would end up working their lives at the institution. Starting in 1946, June takes us through the Wards that she worked and the conditions for female staff in the 1940’s, Rising to Sub Matron and later a Senior Nursing Officer, June was respected at the hospital and equally devoted to the quality of the care provided.
